Secrets for a Crystal Clear Mirror

If you are among those people who want their home to look sparkly clean at all times, you probably want your mirrors to be clean too. Of course, house cleaning may not be extremely entertaining for anyone but if you really care about how your home looks and if you want to make sure that it is as germ-free as possible, regular home cleaning is definitely necessary – and this, of course, includes the mirrors as well.

When going through their domestic cleaning, people very frequently make certain mistakes that eventually damage the appearance of their mirrors. If you want to avoid these mistakes and if you want this year’s spring cleaning to yield great results for every part of your home, make sure to read on and find out more right from the professional cleaning contractors!

•    One of the most important things when it comes to cleaning mirrors (and glass surfaces too) is finding the right cloth to use when wiping the product off. You should never use anything abrasive (even if it is not actually an abrasive fabric, many types of cloth can actually damage mirrors on the long term). Instead, use quality microfiber cloths – and make sure you use them only for the mirrors and not for any other item in your bathroom or in your house. You may have to test out several types of cloths because different brands show different results and you should settle for that which truly satisfies you.

•    Also, you should definitely make sure to use the right cleaning products as well. In general, mirrors and glass surfaces are cleaned with professional cleaners created especially for them – so that they don’t leave marks on this type of surfaces. Again, you may have to test out several products before you settle for one.

•    If you want to go the natural way and if you want to make sure that the products you use are not as toxic as everything that is found in supermarkets these days, you can use your own homemade glass and mirror spray. Simply mix 2 cups of water, 2 tbsp. of rubbing alcohol, 2 tbsp. of white vinegar and about 10 drops of your favourite essential oil (this is optional, but it will smell great and you can choose any essential oil you want – even combine them if you want to). Pour the mixture in a spray bottle and use it whenever you clean the mirrors (once a week is the most recommended way to do this).

•    Black spots on the mirrors can be every home owner’s nightmare, especially if you care a lot about every detail of your home. In general, the main cause that leads to the appearance of these spots is the mirror cleaner that got behind the glass surface and stained the back of the mirror. Also, when black spots appear in the middle of the mirror, this may be caused by excess moisture in the bathroom or in the room where the mirror is situated.

•    Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to actually remove black spots from the mirrors. If they are on the lateral parts of the mirror, you can mask them with a nice frame (and this will add extra style to the bathroom/room as well). Also, you can have your mirror re-silvered as well. Generally speaking, this is a costly service but if you are good with DIY projects you can also do this on your own as well. To do this, you will need a face mask (absolutely mandatory since the products you use can be extremely toxic), a razor scraper, silver remover (which is optional) and a mirror that’s cut to the exact size of your previous mirror.
