Best Stain Removal Methods for Flawless-looking Carpets
The carpets in your home see a lot of action, and with so much use on a daily basis, it really is no wonder that they can easily become dirty or stained. If you’ve had trouble removing stains from your carpets then have a look at the following stain removal method for flawless-looking carpets!
1) Collecting your supplies.
There are a few things you’re going to need for thorough and proper carpet stain removal, but some are everyday household items. Have a look in and around your home for liquid hand soap, white vinegar, a spray bottle and paper towels. You’re also going to need rubbing alcohol and ammonia, so add these to your shopping list if you don’t have them in your home!
2) Pre-treating your stains.
Mix together a pump of your liquid hand soap and water and pour into your spray bottle. Lots of stains can be lifted with just soap and water, so try this method first to see if it works for you. It might not give the results you need, but also works as a pre-treatment spray to make lifting tough stains easier. Spray your stain liberally and pat dry using your paper towels, or an old towel. Make sure you aren’t leaving soap residue in your carpet by repeating the method with clean water once your stain has been lifted.
3) Dealing with tough coloured stains.
Everything from red wine to tomato ketchup can sully your carpets, and these bright-coloured stains tend to need a little more work to remove them. After your pre-treatment, mix together white vinegar and water in equal measures and spray your stain. Leave to sit for fifteen minutes and then blot with a damp sponge and lukewarm water. Never use boiling water on your carpets or rugs as this can actually help to set a stain. Once you’ve blotted the stain, leave it to dry with paper towels resting on top. You should see a dramatic difference with this method!
4) Removing pet stains.
Ammonia is the best way to remove urine or other such stains from your carpet. Create a mixture that’s half ammonia and half water and spray your stain. Don’t soak the stain too much, as this can damage your carpet. Again, blot the stain, though you can just use your paper towels to do this, and leave to dry. With any carpet stains, try to avoid scrubbing at them, as this can make stains worse and can also lead to damage to your carpets.
5) Removing other stains.
Lipstick, gravy and crayon stains should all be treated differently to other stains. The waxy and greasy texture of items like this means that the most effective method of stain removal is through using rubbing alcohol. Simply put a little rubbing alcohol onto a towel, cloth or your paper towels and gently blot at any waxy stains until they start to lift. Always blot in the same direction, and never rub or be rough when tackling any stain.
6) Hiring professional cleaners.
If you have truly stubborn stains then you might want to hire carpet cleaners from your local cleaning company. Cleaning agencies will have the experience and equipment needed to tackle any stain, and you can easily find inexpensive cleaning services in your area. A cleaning agency is a great way to deal with stains that you don’t have time for, so speak to cleaning contractors in your area for more information.
